As evident in the United States with popular 6×6 pickup conversions on Ford, Ram, Jeep, and Chevy models, the trend of adding extra wheels to trucks is not exclusive to American enthusiasts. This Mercedes X-Class 6×6 with Widebody stands as a testament to the European fascination with multi-axle configurations.
The origins of the six-wheeled phenomenon can be traced back to the introduction of the Mercedes G63 AMG 6×6. Renowned for its powerful V8 engine, numerous locking differentials, and a hefty price tag that attracted oil billionaires in the Middle East, these vehicles can command about $1.5 million when available on the market.
While the G-Class occasionally appears in a smaller pickup variant, Mercedes also ventured into the utilitarian segment with the X-Class, developed under a partnership with Nissan/Renault. Although smaller than most American pickups, the X-Class, based on the Nissan Navara, boasts Mercedes luxury trim and branding. Some sources suggest that this particular 6×6 iteration is essentially a Navara fitted with the X-Class body kit, a detail of lesser significance given that both models were manufactured in Spain.
The Mercedes X-Class was in production from 2017 to 2020, with a modest 16,700 units sold in its first full year (2018). A notable distinction from the Navara is found in the powertrains, especially in the flagship X 350d, equipped with a robust 255 hp 3.0-liter diesel engine.
Turning attention to the specific build, the project was undertaken by the Swedish workshop Järudds Class Cars and recently showcased at the Elmia Car Show. The 6×6 modification features Ferrada FT3 matte black wheels measuring 24×10 inches at all corners, creating a sporty and distinctive stance.
The widebody kit applied to the X-Class is believed to be sourced from Pickup Design. Approximately four years ago, Pickup Design presented a 6-wheel X-Class concept named the Exy Monster X, featuring a similar design with plates over the fender flares. Notably, the front design has undergone significant enhancements, incorporating additional aerodynamic elements, including a chin spoiler.
While the exact cost of such customizations remains undisclosed, projects of this nature are presumed to fall within the realm of the lower price range of a Lamborghini Huracan.
