A contemporary interpretation of the K5 Blazer has emerged through the Flat Out Autos’ Chevy K5 Blazer ZR2 Conversion for 2023 and beyond. Despite Chevrolet’s shift toward a FWD-based crossover and an EV, Flat Out Autos has taken a different route to resurrect the spirit of the legendary K5 Blazer. So, here we will tell you about this awesome custom made Chevy K5 Blazer.
Flat Out Autos, based in Arkansas, dubs its creation the KR2, combining elements from the classic K5 Blazer and the ZR2 badge that Chevrolet uses for its off-road-focused models. The SUV is built on a shortened version of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado, specifically the 1500 WT regular cab variant. The wheelbase has been reduced by 22 inches, and the rear of the cab modified to accommodate an open-air rear seat with a removable hardtop made of carbon fiber.
The KR2 boasts serious off-road capabilities, featuring 37-inch Nitto Trail Grappler mud-terrain tires on widened fenders, a long-travel suspension by Dirt King, and Fox Racing shocks with external reservoirs. Under the hood, it houses the Silverado’s factory 5.3L V8 engine paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission. Optionally, a Whipple supercharger with HP Tuners software can be added. This mod is boosting power to 467 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels.
The utilitarian interior of the Silverado has been transformed into a more luxurious space, with Katzkin leather-finished seats and a premium overall feel. The starting price for this modern-day Chevy K5 Blazer is $178,000, and with additional options such as the $14,950 supercharger, the total cost can reach $202,000, including the donor truck.
Flat Out Autos, known for high-quality conversions, previously introduced a modern iteration of the GMC Jimmy for the SEMA show. This model, based on 2023 GMC Sierra or 2023 Chevy Silverado, follows a similar formula to the K5 Blazer conversion. For retromodding enthusiasts company also offers a 2-door Chevy K5 Blazer based on 2018 Chevy Tahoe, featuring retro-style body panels. This build gained attention as a star at SEMA 2021 and subsequently became an auction highlight.
